Water Coming Back The Way It Went Out?
Backflow is water travelling the wrong way through your plumbing. For most homeowners it shows up in a storm. The street system surcharges, the sewer or stormwater line rises above your fixtures, and waste comes up through the lowest point in the house.
The other kind involves your drinking water. When mains pressure drops, from a main breaking or a hydrant being used, pressure in the street line can fall below the pressure inside your plumbing. Water is then siphoned backwards out of whatever is connected.
Garden taps, irrigation and rainwater tank connections are the usual risk points at a house. Commercial sites carry far more. If water already backs up outside, start with our drainage and blocked drain work, because a partly blocked line makes every storm worse.
