Turn The Water Off At The Meter
Your water meter sits near the front boundary, usually in a pit with a lid. The mains tap is beside it. Turn it clockwise until it stops, or swing a lever across to sit at right angles to the pipe.
If water is near wiring, power points, downlights or the switchboard, kill the power at the main switch before you go wading in. If you cannot reach the switchboard without walking through water, stay out and call your electricity distributor.
Then save what you can. Lift rugs, move furniture off wet carpet, get boxes and electricals off the floor. Photograph everything while it is still wet, before you mop, because that is what your insurer will want.
